Hello everyone,

welcome to my blog and to my first ever entry. It will be dedicated to the movie that is stuck in my head for 3 weeks now. It literally blew my mind.

Like you see in the title I will write about ROCKETMAN. A biopic about the life of Elton John, directed by Dexter Flechter.

I was excited to see the movie since the trailer came out. It just locked so good and I thought Taron Egerton was a perfect choice for the role as Elton.

I basically knew nothing about Elton's private life just that he is married and has two kids now but not how he reached fame and struggles he had to deal with.

In the following I will talk extensively about the movie so SPOILER ALERT! But I will try to not take too much away.

Like I said I knew nothing about Elton this is probably why I have got chills right at the beginning when Elton enters rehab and counts down his addiction to the support group. It is such a massiv scene. It took my breath away.

Dexter Fletcher created a scene where you do not know if you should be laughing because it is so absurd or cry because it is just really really sad. But all your emotions get taken away when he starts talking about his childhood and in the next scene you see a young Elton singing and dancing in the street.

After that you also get a view on how his parents were. Which will help you understanding his behavior later in the movie. So let's basically say it like this: his father has not build up a loving connection to his (then) only son. His mother has literally too much pride to actually really care for him and is too busy to build up a high class reputation for a working class family. The only person that really loves and supports Elton is his grandmother. She cares for him and supports him in his musical talent with driving him to the Royal Academy of Music where he gets a scholarship for. All these characters are well formed and you get the problems everyone individually has to fight.

Eltons life goes on he grows up, becomes a pianist, makes his first homosexual experience, focuses on his solo career and then meets his songwriter and best friend Bernie Taupin (played by Jamie Bell).

Taron Egerton as Elton John & Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin

This friendship is so loving. Bernie is a really great character you will fall in love with. He is a true friend to Elton and supports him even in his darkest times. The real Elton John even said that they never had a fight in 50 years which is easy too believe because you totally get this in the movie. Of course they had some difference but they never really argued.

The moment when they first went to America and Elton plays his first gig at the Troubadour in L.A. just warmed my heard. It was so magical. It really felt like you were in this venue flying to "Crocodile Rock" like everyone else.

Following this event Elton is meeting John Reid (played by Richard Madden). John was his first love and they were in a relationship for actually five years and he also became his manager. Of course we have to talk about the love scene.

Richard Madden once said that it was the first time Elton made love so it is a big moment in his life and so important for the movie. It also makes the relationship between them so beautiful. Suddenly during the movie there is a twist. Not just in the plot but also with John. He turns in this really toxic person in Elton's life. He is losing everything in this moment his relationship, his family and his friends. Suddenly he is alone and you can totally feel it.

This is also when the viewer gets how deep Elton is in his addiction. If you think about it the abuse of alcohol and drugs slowly develops through the movie. At first you probably do not even notice it until you are deep in it. It is just so real

Pool Scene

Another massive scene was when Elton tries to kill himself and nearly drowns in the pool. I would say the pool is a metaphor for the feeling of drowning. You can not breath because the real life problems are taking your breath. Such a great scene. And the dance scene after that where Elton gets into the hospital but can not rest because he has to play his biggest concert at Dodgers Stadium. Everything is just so sad and real at the same time. And Elton is just drowning more and more.

Until the club scene when he lays on top of those people and recaptures his life.

I think this is the moment he realizes what he really wants. He wants to make music just like he dreamed it as a child. He knows that he needs help.

So he leaves the Madison Square Garden in his orange devil/angle suit and drives to rehab. He just focusses on himself and kind of finds his passion for music again after Bernie visits and hands him new songs that needed a melody.

The movie ends with Elton leaving rehab in a white suit and a smile singing "I'm still standing" which perfectly fits.

I just have to give credits to this amazing soundtrack. The songs are fitting so good to every scene and Taron Egerton sings them so well. Guys if he is not getting an Oscar for his performance something is really wrong with the Academy.

Another topic I have to acknowledge is the costume design. They did not just created Eltons iconic looks they also reinterpretated them. The probably most thoughtful outfit was the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" outfit. The "Wizard of OZ" inspired song got a "Wizard of OZ" inspired outfit with blue suit and sparkling red shoes.

But I have to admit the orange devil/angle suit is a masterpiece just like the movie.

As a conclusion I can say that this movie was probably the best I have ever seen and it is going to be hard for any movie to be better.

For anyone who has not seen it jet and read until this part be excited for all the other amazing scenes I was not able to write about because they just blew my mind.

So everyone go see it and if you allready have go watch it again it is worth every money in this world.

Thanks for reading my first entry I am excited to write even more and I hope you are too.

Have a nice day.

Lots of love

Leonie
